Guess who is on the radio?

Our very own Tom Fernandez can be heard on the radio on September 22, 2011 on FM channel 90.1/91.7 on the show called "All Thing Considered" from 4-6:30 p.m.  Tom Fernandez will be speaking on the history of our family which has been in the Estero area for over 112+ years.  It should be very interesting.  Tune-in if you are local.

Our family book has made it into the local Ft. Myers News-Press Tropicalia section in an article called "Florida by the Book" by Amy Bennett Williams.  The story features other authors that have written about South Florida and of course Beside The Still Waters was included.  Check out the link... 

Condolences to our Family

I just wanted to let the family know that we lost another member of the Fernandez family yesterday. Dorothy Fernandez Mayfield passed away yesterday in her sleep. She lived in Elk Park, NC. She is survived by her two brothers, Tom and Bill Fernandez as well as her children and grandchildren. Information about the funeral services have not been released yet. As soon as I have more details, I will let everyone know.


For those of you who work on our family tree, Dorothy's parents were Joe George and Nona Grace Fernandez.

Marlene will be mailing the packages with all the information you will need to know for the reunion on September 1, 2010.  The reservation form and $ must be returned by October 15th so we may proceed to the printing with the book!

Did you know...

There was a cookbook written in memory of Evelyn Luettich Horne?  There are recipes from Evelyn's collection including Appetizers, Side Dishes and Casseroles, Entree's, Breads, Drinks, Desserts and Snacks, and Holiday Specialties.


The cookbook was written by her daughter, Darlene Horne Johnson.  It has many of her classic Baked Bean recipe and how to make Fried Mullet.  I own a copy of this cookbook and it is the BEST book I have ever read.


Along with the abundance of recipes there is a story of the "Life of Evelyn" complete with a family tree!  Many people contributed memoirs and there is a letter to Evelyn from Vicki Fernandez.   It is so special and I promise you will not be disappointed in the least.
